“Brand zones establish an aristocracy of individuation where certain individuals achieve cult status and where participation is achieved through the rite of shopping.  The myth of the public has been replaced by the myth of the individual, one that allows each member of the public its share of perceived individuality in return…this fiction is constantly fine-tuned and translated into the environment.  Brand zones conflate the image of the city and the individual.  In retail, architecture has a message, it has a purpose and individuals for which it is made.  Firmness, utility, and delight become the concepts of brand management: the management of an enduring image, the establishment of brand equity, and the creation of desirability.”
